Works everywhere

Wherever you can type, you can talk.

Messages, email, notes, prompts, code, docs. OpenVocally pastes where your cursor is, in any app with a text field.

How it works

You think faster than you type. So say it.

Press ⌥D and talk. Press it again, and the text is pasted where your cursor is.

Thanks for the notes. I moved the launch to Thursday to fix the onboarding bug. Can you send the copy by Wednesday?

Privacy

Your voice never leaves your Mac.

The speech model runs on your Mac, so dictation keeps working with Wi-Fi off. There is no account, and your transcripts stay local.

Click around the window below. It works like the app.

FAQ

Questions.

When can I get it?

Soon. OpenVocally is not out yet. The first version will be a free download from this page, and the source code will be published with it.

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no trial, no account and no card. Dictate as much as you want.

Does my voice leave my Mac?

No. Recording and transcription happen on your Mac. OpenVocally goes online for two things only: to download the speech model you choose, and to check GitHub for updates, which you can turn off in Settings. Neither sends your voice or your words. There are no analytics. Read the privacy policy

Which apps does it work with?

Any app with a text field: chat, mail, notes, your browser, your code editor, your terminal. OpenVocally pastes where your cursor is, then puts your clipboard back the way it was. If the focus is not a text field, the text waits on the clipboard for your own ⌘V.

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or newer. During setup, OpenVocally asks for two permissions: the microphone, to hear you, and Accessibility, to paste into other apps.

Which languages does it understand?

Parakeet v3 and Parakeet Ultra cover 25 languages. Whisper Turbo covers 99. Each detects the language on its own, so there is nothing to switch.

Is it open source?

Yes. OpenVocally is free software under the GPL-3.0 license. The code will be public on GitHub when the first version ships.

Try it on your next message.

It's free, it stays on your Mac, and there's nothing to sign up for.
